Kora
The kora is a 21 stringed instrument from West Africa and is referred to as a harp lute. It dates back approximately 300yrs and is still played extensively in many countries in West Africa as well many places around the world. Its popularity is steadily increasing worldwide.
Our Tutor Adam Doughty has been playing the kora for a many years and has taught a number of people of all ages.
In the workshops Adam is usually accompanied by Josh Doughty who has been playing for ten years he is now 18yrs. His ability to play the kora is a demonstration to other young people of the possibilities of stepping beyond perceived cultural restraints.
Adam has recently developed a beginners teaching CD which is an excellent way to learn the kora at home or in school.
